Our Rescue Dogs
Our private dog rescue shelter began in a way I never expected.
After my father passed away, I inherited his dog, Fluffy. My father lived alone and had been caring for Fluffy, but none of my siblings could take her in. So, I stepped up and welcomed her into my home.
Fluffy then had a puppy with our neighbor’s dog, which we named Kuromi.
Occasionally, we also took in Missy, my friend’s dog, whenever she went abroad for six months out of the year.
In 2021, one of our neighbors abandoned her dog. I kept finding the dog rummaging through our community dumpster, searching for food. Seeing this broke my heart, so I started feeding her, and eventually, she followed me home. Shortly after, we discovered she was pregnant, and she gave birth to three puppies. So, in what seemed like no time at all, our household went from one dog to seven—four adult dogs and three puppies.
Around the same time, I came across a dog in our parking lot. He was in horrible condition—skin and bones, missing fur—like a walking skeleton. I began feeding him, and eventually, some local kids warned me that people in the parking lot had been known to harm stray dogs. If I intended to care for him, it would be best to bring him home, and so I did. We named him Fidel, and he’s been with us ever since.
Mitzi, who lives with me, also rescued a dog named Yuki, adding to our growing pack. My mother, too, brought in a dog named Choco, after our neighbor tried to get rid of him.
Our dog family continued to grow, and in 2024, Bella, one of the dogs we took in earlier, gave birth to her first litter of three puppies: Haru, Tomori, and Rie. Unfortunately, Rie passed away due to parvovirus, and Haru and Tomori almost didn’t make it either. Luckily, we were able to get them confined in a hospital, and they survived.
Bella’s second litter brought six more puppies: Syrup, Toru, Yui, Chomper, Gio (who is now being cared for by my mom), and another puppy that a close family member adopted. Chomper was later adopted by my uncle.
Most recently, in 2024, Bella gave birth to her third litter of six puppies, though we haven’t named them yet.
Despite the growing number of dogs, we decided to take care of most of them ourselves. It’s difficult to find families capable of providing the level of care and attention these dogs need, so we made the decision to keep them in our home where they could be safe and cared for. Over time, our efforts became more structured, and we now operate as a small private shelter, providing a sanctuary for abandoned, neglected, and rescued dogs in need of a loving home.
